Sharing Métis Jigging at the Children & Youth Pow Wow

Sharing Métis Jigging at the Children & Youth Pow Wow

On April 25, we had the honour of performing at the Ottawa Aboriginal Coalition’s Children and Youth Pow Wow in Ottawa.

This annual gathering brings together Indigenous children, youth, and families for a day of culture, connection, and celebration. It’s a space where community comes together to share songs, dances, and teachings in a way that is welcoming and grounded in respect.

For us, stepping into that space as Métis jiggers is always meaningful.

We taught a Métis jigging workshop before Grand Entry and shared some Métis jigging dances as part of the Honour Songs. Jigging is more than footwork. It’s storytelling. Dance carries history, community, and connection in every step. It is deeply rooted in rhythm, resilience, and joy.

There’s something special about dancing in a space filled with other youth. We are grateful to the organizers and to the community for creating a space where First Nations, Inuit, and Métis cultures can be celebrated together.

If you’re interested in having us perform at your event or gathering, we’d love to hear from you.
