We had the privilege of performing and teaching at the Canadian Medical Association National Indigenous Peoples Day "Métis Voices" event today, where we met Jimmy Durocher, a highly esteemed Métis and Cree Elder. Although our interaction was brief, it was deeply significant for us as Métis Jiggers.

Jimmy Durocher is a Residential School Survivor from the Île-à-la-Crosse Boarding School, and his experiences have driven his dedication to advocating for Métis rights. He is also an Indigenous Veteran of the Royal Canadian Air Force and has held various leadership positions, including serving as a board member at the Gabriel Dumont Institute and as the former President of the Métis Nation of Saskatchewan. We were fortunate to capture this moment in a photograph, which we will treasure as a reminder of this meaningful event.

Meeting an Elder like Jimmy Durocher highlights the importance of intergenerational connections within our culture and the necessity of preserving our Métis identity. enter image description here
